Our History and Purpose

The Maricopa Colleges Faculty Association came into existence as a 501(c)5 labor organization in 1984 when Association President Dewey Born (Gateway College) and President-Elect Lorraine Calbow (South Mountain College) filed articles of incorporation on behalf of the associated Residential faculty of the Maricopa Colleges.  Prior to incorporation, the association existed as an informal professional association of the full-time faculty of the colleges dating back to the mid-1960′s.

The Executive Council of the Faculty Association, composed of executive officers of the college senates as well as at-large representatives based on association membership, are the official representative body of Residential faculty.  The Executive Council is charged with representing the faculty in all academic and professional matters to the Governing Board and District Administration as well as managing the business affairs of the Association.  The Executive Council determines and assesses the appropriate dues for members, creates a budget for the association, and determines when and how dues are to be expended on behalf of the membership.  Officers of the Executive Council are charged to represent both the interests of the faculty of their college as well as the interest of the membership of the Faculty Association in general.
